Adam Cook
What was supposed to be a routine hip replacement surgery at another hospital quickly turned into a life-changing experience when Adam suffered a stroke just hours later. Suddenly, he was facing the unimaginable — relearning how to walk, dress himself and speak clearly again.
When Adam arrived at the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Doctors Hospital of Augusta, hope started to return.
“Every single person here believed in me before I believed in myself,” Adam shared. “The therapy teams pushed me, encouraged me and celebrated every little win along the way.”
After weeks of hard work with physical, occupational and speech therapy, Adam is now walking with a crutch, regaining movement in his arm and preparing to be discharged home tomorrow.
Having spent his career in the hospitality industry, Adam says the care he received stood out in a powerful way.
“You can teach skills, but you can’t teach people to truly care. The team here made me feel supported every step of the way.”
As Adam heads home to continue his recovery journey, we hope you’ll help cheer him on. We are honored to have been part of his story.
